Whether you have been a church-goer all your life or have never been to a church, community groups are a great place to start. They are our way of taking the “churchiness” out of church. Typically, a community group has 6-12 people in it. Groups meet weekly, usually in someone’s home, but from time to time they may meet in a pub or a park or a cafe. Weekly group time includes a meal (or tapas), creative worship, as well as open discussion around varied faith-topics. Community groups are a great place to meet new people and make lasting friendships.

Oasis Madrid meets every weekend in two basic formats.
1. Oasis Madrid has its services on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. We meet at 6pm at our local at Calle de Esparteros 1, piso 3 – 1 (metro: Sol). We meet in an informal setting and do our best to make our services artistic and interactive. There is a nursery/creche provided for 0-3 year-olds. Please join us for a drink afterwards.

2. On the 2nd Saturday of the month we have a discussion/seminar/teaching time called “Seminar Saturday”. Visit the”What’s on When” section each month to find out details on time, place, and topic. You can also subscribe to The Cactus below and obtain information that way.
3. On the 4th Saturday of the month we have a social get together called “The Gathering”. This is an opportunity to get together with friends in a non traditional church setting (eg bar, park….). Visit the”What’s on When” section to find out where and when to meet. To read a full description of “The Gathering” go here.
We believe that building relationships, with each other and with the community around us, is important. Because of this, one Saturday a month we hold a variety of social events, ranging from board games to picnics to community service. Everyone is welcome to come and to invite friends.
To get the most up-to-date info on the upcoming “The Gathering”, visit our What’s On section or email us at info@oasismadrid.org
Members of Oasis Madrid are encouraged to demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways through service in their local community.
If you would like more information about service projects that are available or have any suggestions for new things we can do please contact Warren Batt at warren_batt@hotmail.com or Karen Batt at karenbatt@hotmail.com
Here are some examples of the ways we are serving the community:
Homeless “sandwich route”
Since it started, Oasis Madrid has had a “sandwich route” and we’ve been building relationships with some of Madrid’s homeless people, serving them in practical ways. Every week we make sandwiches and go out to spend time with these men and women, getting to know them, listening to them, learning how we can support them.
You can help out with the sandwich route by either participating on Saturdays, praying or providing other items (eg clothes, toiletries etc)
Peter and friends:
A group of International women have opened up an “English Speaking Corner” at the Reina Victoria Old Folks Home at Metro Guzman El Bueno to provide services and support to people who don’t speak Spanish.
They are loking for volunteers to spend time with the English speaking residents, like Peter.

That’s right, Oasis Madrid has a baby church, and hopes to have many more
babies in the years to come. In 2009, we commissioned five people that
were a part of our church to start a new church in Spanish in the neighbourhood
of Malasaña in Madrid.
The church is called “Découpage” and we encourage you to check them out.

Oasis Madrid is led by a team of elders.
(new photos coming soon!)
They are: Amy Swacina, Al Dyck, Warren Batt, Jay Sensenig and Phil Lucas.
We do not currently have a lead pastor.
Amy has been on Oasis Madrid’s full-time staff since its beginning. She is a full time missionary with Christian Associates and is an elder. She oversees our community group ministry and helps keep us somewhat organized by managing the operations side of things. She loves to dance.
Al has lived in Europe since 1997 working with Christian Associates. He has been an elder since summer 2011. He is married to Elizabeth and has three children: Daniel who is living in Arizona, and Bobby and Katie who are a part of Oasis. He likes the reading and the outdoors.
Warren has been an elder since Oct 2009 and has been involved with Oasis for the last 5 years. He provides oversight to Oasis Madrid’s outreach and has run many community groups and Alpha courses. He is married to Karen, is a woodworker and is master to a dog that only has one eye.
Jay has been an elder since Oct 2009. He is married to Carolyn. They arrived in Spain in 2004 and were on the team for our sister church, Mountainview. Jay has served as an advisor to the Oasis team since its beginning in 2006 and he leads the elder board. Together with Phil Lucas, Jay provides oversight to Oasis Madrid’s discipleship and leadership development areas.
Phil has been an elder since Oct 2009. He is Australian but grew up in Holland. He is married to Lydia. He has been part of Oasis since its beginning. He partners with Jay in championing discipleship and our leader’s community. He is quite the biking enthusiast!
